Tamar Iveri - Elisabetta di Valois
Georgian soprano Tamar Iveri, studied singing at the Conservatory in Tbilisi and
first came to the public's attention as Desdemona in May 1998, then she won
second prize at the "Voci Verdiane" competition in Busseto and in 1999,
she won first prize at the Mozart Competition in Salzburg, where she met Ileana
Cotrubas, who has been her mentor ever since. Engagements at the world's most
important opera houses followed quickly: Simon Boccanegra (Deutsche
Oper in Berlin), La Bohème (Staatsoper in Vienna), Simone Boccanegra and Don
Giovanni (Covent Garden in London), Otello (La Fenice,
Venice) opera she also performed under the baton of Riccardo Muti, with La Scala
on tour in Japan. In 2003 she gave her much acclaimed role debut as Adriana
Lecouvreur in Graz, she then arrived at the Salzburg Festival singing
Fiordiligi in a new production of Così fan Tutte followed in 2004
by her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Donna Anna- Don Giovanni).
Then she made her debut at the Houston Grand Opera (Faust) and at the Arena
in Verona (La Bohème). In recent years, she returned to the Vienna State
Opera (Tatyana - Eugene Onegin, Donna Anna - Don Giovanni,
Nedda - I Pagliacci, Amelia Grimaldi - Simon Boccanegra)
to the Metropolitan Opera (Vitellia - La clemenza di Tito, Donna
Anna- Don Giovanni) she made her debut at La Scala in Milan again as Donna
Anna in Don Giovanni, at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and at the
Hamburgische Staatsoper as Tatyana in Eugene Onegin and at Opera
Bastille in Paris as Elisabetta in Don Carlo, at the Opera Bastille
she also sang Mimì in La Bohème, Elettra in Idomeneo, Suor
Angelica and Desdemona in Verdi's Otello. After her role debuts
as Lucrezia Contarini in Verdi's I Due Foscari in Las Palmas,
as Leonora in Il Trovatore in Tokyo and as Vitellia in Mozart's La
clemenza di Tito in Tulouse, where she also appeared as Suor Angelica,
Donna Anna and Elisabetta (Don Carlo), she returned to La Scala as Luisa
Miller, at Berlin Staatsoper as Elisabetta in Don Carlo, at
Opera Australia for her first Amelia in Un ballo in maschera. Performances
of the 2013/2014 season include Amelia Grimaldi (Simon Boccanegra) and Elisabetta
(Don Carlo) at the Vienna State Opera, Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito)
at the Paris Opera, her company debut with Zurich Opera as Elisabetta (Don Carlo),
Nedda (I Pagliacci) in Toulouse, Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra at
the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich,Macbeth at the Teatro Petruzzelli in
Bari.
Tamar Iveri regularly collaborates with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Sir Colin
Davis, Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, James Levine, Mariss Jansons,
Antonio Pappano, Daniel Oren and Fabio Luisi.
Mrs Iveri was awarded the M. Abashidze National Prize in Georgia and received the
Eberhard Waechter Medaille for her Tatyana at the Vienna State Opera. For her performances
as Amelia at Opera Australia she got nominated as Best Female Performer in an Opera
for the prestigious Helpmann Awards.
In October 2014 Tamar Iveri established the charity foundation "Safe Society"
to provide medical, psychological, and legal assistance, as well as rehabilitation,
for victims of all forms of violence including domestic violence, sexual orientation-motivated
violence, race-motivated violence and religious violence. Safe Society likewise
will promote civic education in Georgia with regard to human rights.
